Band History:
Fat Jazz is a group with a long
history, and a proud tradition of bringing fine music into our
local communities and schools. Some of the current members have
been with the band for over 10 years, and are going strong. The
band has been a regular performer around town at events
throughout the Lower Mainland, including events for the City of
Vancouver, and City of Port Coquitlam, and gave performances and
workshops in numerous high schools and middle schools. The band
has also played dinner/dance gigs for charity and corporate
events.
The band's style ranges from
traditional big-band swing (such as Count Basie and Benny
Goodman), to Latin grooves, to vocal jazz, to funk, and even
some blues and rock. The band features a full rhythm section,
five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, and our feature
vocalist, Krista Wallace.
Recent Performances:
Fat Jazz has recently performed
at the Hot Jazz Club on Main Street, Calhoun's Cafe on West Broadway, the Heywood Bandstand in English Bay, the Port Coquitlam May
Day festival, and special concerts at Pinetree Secondary and
Pitt River Middle School.
Our
Mission:
To share a love for music with people of all ages, and to encourage players young and old to follow their dreams of playing or just enjoying music, in particular,
jazz.
